Prayers

Prayer is central to our faith and central to life at St Luke’s.

Prayers are read at four distinct points of each school day: in the morning, before dinner, after dinner and before home time. We also find time within the day to pray during times of happiness and sadness.

In addition to our daily rhythm of prayers, children in each year group have a list of prayers that they should learn ‘by heart’ so that they can spring from the heart each time they are said. Children will be helped to appreciate each prayer and understand how each text helps draw them into a relationship with Jesus. To support the children with the prayers that they are to learn, we provide them with a prayer book.

Each classroom has a dedicated prayer space that can be accessed by children for personal prayers. The prayer tables are changed each month with a new focus or with the liturgical season. Class chaplains ensure that the Gospel from Sunday is on display in the class Bible and they ensure that the prayer table in their classroom is kept a sacred space which is conducive to prayer.

There are also prayer stations around school that children can access independently. These are set up by the GIFT team and changed each month to reflect the prayer focus or liturgical season.
